Restylane Defyne (filler)

As the skin ages, it loses elasticity and begins to droop. At the same time, volume in the cheeks are lost as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid begin to break down, resulting in deeper hollows and creases. This results in the formation of age-related lines, wrinkles, and folds across the face. Restylane Defyne reverses these changes by adding natural-looking volume and softening lines for younger-looking skin.

This next-generation filler can last up to 12 months, after which touch-ups may be necessary.

This facial filler contains lidocaine, a numbing agent that minimizes the discomfort. To further reduce discomfort, we offer squeeze balls and topical numbing cream. Most of our patients at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center tolerate the injection well and rate the discomfort as very low.

There is no required recovery time after the treatment. Patients are able to work, run errands, and enjoy time with family and friends immediately after the injection. We recommend taking a 24 hour break from vigorous exercise after the injection, though walking and gentle stretching is fine.

The filler is injected into the facial skin through a small needle to smooth facial wrinkles and laugh lines. For most patients, the procedure takes 15 - 30 minutes.

Swelling, bruising, and pain can occur after injection and can be relieved by applying cold compresses and taking Extra Strength Tylenol. Bruising can especially be minimized by avoiding aspirin and other blood thinners (Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen, Aleve, etc.). Post-injection swelling (edema) can also occur in a small subset of individuals and resolves spontaneously. In some cases a medication can be given to treat the swelling. Recovery time is usually less than a day so Restylane will not interrupt your work, travel, or family plans.
