When will I begin to see results?

Patients can expect to see improved lip volume and texture immediately after the treatment. Full results can be expected within a few weeks of treatment. In a clinical study, 98% of subjects reported visible improvement in volume two weeks after the injection.

How long do the results of Restylane Silk last?

Results can last between 6 and 9 months, depending on the location and other factors specific to each patient.

What happens during the procedure?

Patients will confirm the location and look they hope to achieve with our providers. The specialist technique used at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center minimizes discomfort, as does the small needle the treatment uses. Additionally, Restylane Silk is formulated with a local anesthetic - Lidocaine - which ensures minimal pain during and immediately after treatment. Patients also have the option of waiting for topical numbing cream to take effect, to minimize any risk of discomfort.

Is there a recovery period after the treatment?

There is no required recovery time after the treatment. Patients are able to work, run errands, and enjoy time with family and friends immediately after the injection. We recommend taking a 24 hour break from vigorous exercise after the injection, though walking and gentle stretching is fine.

Who is this treatment appropriate for?

Almost anyone 21 years of age or older and interested in fuller, smooth lips is a candidate for treatment with Restylane Silk. The treatment can be performed on patients who desire immediate, non-surgical correction. Restylane Silk is especially appropriate for patients unable to undergo surgery due to underlying medical conditions.

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane Silk is designed to act as the body’s own, allowing smooth movement of the skin as it adds fullness and definition. It is uniquely formulated and cross-linked to mold to your skin, providing natural shape and definition in the lips.

What are some common side effects and how can they be minimized?

Swelling, bruising, and pain can occur after injection and can be relieved by applying cold compresses and taking Extra Strength Tylenol. Bruising can especially be minimized by avoiding aspirin and other blood thinners (Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen, Aleve, etc.). Post-injection swelling (edema) can also occur in a small subset of individuals and resolves spontaneously. In some cases a medication can be given to treat the swelling. Recovery time is usually less than a day so Restylane will not interrupt your work, travel, or family plans. There are extremely rare reports of the product inadvertently placed in the surrounding blood vessels causing skin necrosis (loss of tissue). This rare complication can be managed with the use of a compound called hyaluronidase or Vitrase (an eraser for the hyaluronic acid) amongst other treatments.
