Our fractional CO2 laser is a fantastic laser treatment for those who want to see improvement in texture and evenness of their skin and are willing to dedicate some downtime in doing so. Fractional CO2 laser is approved for use on lighter skin tones, but not in those of color due to possible hypopigmentation of darker skin. For our patients of color interested in skin resurfacing, we recommend asking our staff about our Venus Viva and PicoWay lasers during your consultation. Those who are currently taking Isotretinoin (accutane) or have taken Isotretinoin within the past 3 months are not candidates for this laser treatment. Fractional CO2 laser is an in-office procedure. Prior to treatment, patients may have topical anesthesia applied to the treatment area in order to minimize discomfort. Once the anesthetic cream has taken effect, treatment can begin. One of our physicians or experienced laser technicians will glide the handpiece of the laser over the treatment area, delivering small dots of laser light only to the desired area. During treatment, we will use our cooling device, Zimmer Cryo6, to deliver cool air to the skin and maximize comfort. The Zimmer can cool the epidermis before, during and after the laser energy has been applied, without interfering with the laser beam. After treatment is complete, Aquaphor will be applied to the treatment area to moisturize the skin and aid in the healing process.

You will feel a sensation similar to a sunburn for a few hours after the procedure is complete. For a few days following fractional CO2 laser treatment, you will experience scabbing, redness, and peeling. We advise our patients to keep their skin moisturized and sun-protected, especially during this post-laser healing time. Every patient is unique, so your post-treatment instructions may include additional steps. Yes, there is some downtime recommended after fractional CO2 resurfacing laser treatment. After treatment, your face will scab and peel as part of the resurfacing process. During this time, you may not want to go to work or any events. We advise our patients to set aside a few days of downtime to allow the skin to heal.
